This guided tour focuses in the life and work of Salvador Dalí, born in Figueres in 1904. We will first head to his last creation, the Dalí Theatre-Museum. It is located in the hometown of the artist, Figueres, about half an hour from Girona and an hour and a half from Barcelona. On the way we will see the beautiful landscape of Empordà region, farms, crops, the ending of the Pyrenees in the north, the Costa Brava on the east. We will take advantage of the journey to introduce you to Salvador Dalí and his family and friends, his work and the recurring symbology in his paintings.
The visit in the museum will take about an hour. We will see the tomb of Dalí right beneath the ancient stage of the theatre and guide you in most of the rooms of the museum. Anyway there will be some free time for you to wander on your own in the museum and visit the exhibition of jewels designed by Dalí between 1941 and 1970.
After the Dalí Museum we will head either to the house of the artist in Portlligat, outside the town of Cadaqués, or the Gala-Dalí Castle in the town of Púbol.
Both sites complete the Dalinian triangle but depending on the city you are based (Girona or Barcelona) it will be better to visit one or the other, considering the distance and time you have to tour. We recommend you visiting the Castle if you are staying in Barcelona and visiting the House-museum if you are staying in Girona.
The House-Museum is located by the seaside in the reservoir of Cap de Creus Natural Park. This is the only house ever owned by the artist, built and extended throughout 40 years. The spot is just magical, surrounded by nature, the Mediterranean sea, the natural Park in a small hidden bay on the Costa Brava.
The Castle in Púbol was a gift from Dalí to Gala in 1969. Although it is a castle from the XIVth century, the Dalís restored it thoroughly to use it as a residence for Gala only. She was buried there in 1982. There are some wall paintings and other works of Dalí in the castle. The town is small, medieval-looking in some parts and surrounded by fields.
There will be some free time for you to have lunch in Cadaqués or Púbol before or after the visit.
