Three days of live music with over 300 bands on stage, nearly 1000 people on staff and an expected turnout of 200.000 people. What is taking place in Barcelona from 28th to 30th of May is not only a Music Festival; after 15 editions, Primavera Sound is one of the top five events with a biggest economic impact in the city, leaving more than 90 million euros in global income.
Following the philosophy of the past editions, Primavera Sound 2015 brings together massive audience bands like The Strokes and The Black Keys, the headliners who top this year’s bill, and upcoming bands and talented non-mainstream artists. The line-up is completed with some legendary and cult artists like Patti Smith, Ride and The Replacements. The festival is a must-go event for music professionals, hipsters and music fans of every taste willing to pay 195€ for the full ticket.
The core of the Festival are, of course, the concerts that take place at Parc del Fòrum but Primavera Sound spreads the music throughout the city with simultanous and free concerts that bring the music to the rest of the public and are a platform for local bands. Primavera als Bars is a serie of live concerts in unusual venues like bars, it takes place the week before the Festival and puts on stage emerging artists that have the opportunity to showcase their music. Another activity for the local audience is Primavera als Barris. With the aim of being present in every corner of the city, Primavera als Barris sets on stage a total of 12 live concerts in different cultural centers around Barcelona.
Probably, though, the most interesting free activity is the one that opens the Festival in Parc del Fòrum one day before the official opening. Totally free of charge, 6 big scale concerts take place from 17h to past midnight, being the New Yorker and member of The Strokes, Albert Hammond, the highlight of the day. After that, if you did not get the chance to buy tickets for the rest of the concerts at Forum, you can go to Parc de la Ciutadella. It is the largest park in the old town of Barcelona and there you can enjoy several open-air music performances during the day, while chilling and sitting on the grass.
Any other way to experience the Festival? Well, it might not be a very exciting one, but for those who are fans of some of the bands but could not get a ticket, the most outstanding concerts at Parc del Forum are broadcasted live in streaming at Primavera Sound website.
